What to use to protect an oak front door and frame from rain?
The door is an antique, but it is suffering from wind and rain, blackening at the bottom. The bottom frame is too. When they dry out, they're grey rather than the original brown. I applied several coats of Danish oil a few months ago, but the problem is getting worse. What's the best way to deal with it? I don't want to paint it - the wood is beautiful.
Forget Thompsons or other polyurethane type products. Use Sikkens Cetol. As mentioned in other answers, sand the door to remove the grayed wood, then apply two coats.
