Why would a floor that isn't level make a cupboard's door drop?
I bought a sideboard about 10 months ago. Several months ago I noticed that one of the doors had dropped so I rang the shop to complain. They sent out an 'independent technician' who told me that because my floor wasn't level the door had dropped and there was nothing he could do about it.
I've moved the sideboard around the house and checked the spirit level (always even) but this has made no difference to the door.
I'm no expert but can't understand how the floor should affect a cupboard's doors.
Can't adjust the hinges coz of the design of the build.
Please help - the sideboard cost me nearly £300!
Yes, an unlevel floor can affect how the door hangs in the opening....if possible, use a framing square to check if the framing around the door is square. Is the top edge of the door even? Are the gaps even all around? It sounds like the sideboard is poorly built and it's design has too small of framing around the door and can't maintain a square opening but it's hard to tell without a picture.....gravity will tend to pull the outer edge of a door downwards to the point where it binds or drops especially if the opening/design is not rigid and allowed to twist. An uneven or unlevel floor will produce this as well.
In your case, if the hinges are tight and not adjustable, one option is to shim up the sideboard feet on opposite corners to get the door to line up in it's opening. You could also add thin shims behind the lower hinge to raise the door outer bottom edge. If those fail, the sideboard would have to be strengthened or gusseted on the inside edges to strengthen the framing around the door to keep it square.
